The first weeks after a becoming a parent can be both exciting and overwhelming.
Growing healthy babies and a healthy family is all about having the right information, knowledge and confidence – whether you are a parent, guardian or grandparent.
Your own mental health and wellbeing, especially as a new parent or expecting parent, is important. Whilst significant changes can occur to your lifestyle, body, relationships and emotions, new parents are often most concerned with establishing what is best for baby. However establishing a positive routine for yourself is vital.

Postnatal Home Visiting Service
In partnership with Metro South Health, Brisbane South PHN coordinates the Postnatal Home Visiting Service, which is delivered by both public and private midwifery groups throughout the region.
Visits are scheduled to occur at two weeks and four weeks post birth.
Each visit will provide:
- general health and wellbeing check
- postnatal assessment
- developmental assessment of the baby
- feeding support
- parenting strategies
- advice on local community services.
In an attempt to improve immunisation rates and to encourage regular health checks, you will also receive reminders via SMS.
Who is eligible
All parents who reside in the Brisbane South PHN region, regardless of which hospital or practice they attend, are offered two (2) postnatal visits by a registered midwife in their home free of charge.
How to access
Parents of new babies are offered the Service when they ‘check in’ at the hospital to give birth and you can enrol to participate by signing the consent form.
