There have been two cases of multi-drug resistant (MOR) gonorrhoea recently detected in Australia. One of these cases was diagnosed in Western Australia, and the other in Queensland.

These are two of only three known cases worldwide that are highly resistant to all of the antibiotics that have been in routine use to treat gonorrhoea.

The Communicable Diseases Network of Australia has approved the release of the Information for Clinicians: Multi-drug Resistant Gonorrhoea fact sheet containing testing and treatment advice for N. gonorrhoeae.
