Palliative Care Queensland are delivering a free community forum, Open Conversations about Life and Death, this Thursday 24 June as part of their National Palliative Care Week awareness activities.
The forum will feature talks by authors and end of life healthcare experts, Professor Ken Hillman and Dr Sarah Winch, drawing on their years of education and experience to start a conversation about life and death with the Queensland community.
Approximately 29 000 Queenslanders die each year and despite many expressing a wish to die at home, the vast majority die in hospital. For National Palliative Care Week 2018, seven Queensland organisations are supporting the event to help shift how people communicate about loss, ageing, disability, dying and grief.
In addition to Palliative Care Queensland, these organisations include Brisbane South PHN, Metro South Health, COTA-QLD, Carers QLD, Health Consumers QLD and Cancer Council QLD.
The forum will include a Q&A with guest speakers Professor Hillman and Dr Winch, the opportunity to speak with industry professionals at the forum information booths, a book signing and complimentary morning tea.
Brisbane South PHN is currently undertaking a survey on palliative care in the Brisbane south region, to understand more about your plans for older age and end of life care. Please assist us in better planning the region’s future service response. Click here to take the Brisbane South PHN end of life survey.
