Celebrating First Nations health workers

Kym is a Yugumbeh (Gold Coast) woman working as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist on Yuggera country (Inala). We had the privilege of speaking with Kym recently as part of our showcase of Brisbane south’s incredible First Nations health care workforce.

‘I have a background in nursing and was interested in Indigenous health. I went back to university and did health promotion. I really identified with that space; it’s a really satisfying space to work in. You really see great outcomes and great engagement. The more Indigenous people we’ve got in the health service, the more friendly the health service is, the more our clients will access that service because they’ll feel comfortable. It’s never too early or never too late to consider pursuing a career that you’ve thought about.’

We are proud to celebrate Kym’s story to inspire the next generation of First Nations health care workers in Brisbane south.
