About COVID-19

On this page:

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a new virus that causes some cold and flu-like symptoms and can affect your lungs and airways. It’s caused by a type of coronavirus, and because it’s new we are still learning about it.

Symptoms can include…

If you have serious symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, call 000 for urgent medical help.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19, particularly if you or someone close to you has been overseas recently, please take a look at our resources page for information on who to contact. You can also use the Healthdirect Symptom Checker.

It’s important to call before going to your medical centre or local emergency rooms, as going straight there could put others at risk.
