Brisbane South PHN is pleased to share our new series ‘COVID-19 Conversations’, featuring short videos that discuss experiences and share the lessons being learned. These videos are about primary health services, community groups and community organisations in Brisbane, the challenges they are facing and the solutions they are finding as we work together to support community health and wellbeing through this challenging time.
Episode one: Influenza vaccines and flu season
This video features Michelle Gordon, a Practice Nurse Coordinator and Elaine Gray, a Practice Nurse. We discuss flu vaccines and some of the challenges that practices are facing, their priorities and the innovations they are putting in place.
Episode two: Mental heath of primary health care workers
In this video we talk about what we can do to look after our own wellbeing or to support those we work with. Brisbane South PHN is extending its Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to primary health professionals and staff in the region. EAP is a free and confidential counselling service and they are waiting to hear from you. Many thanks to Patrice Cafferky and Scott Preston.
Episode three: Understanding the process
Sarah Andrews is a phlebotomist who has tested people for COVID-19 and also been tested herself. She shares a simple description of the process with us in this video. She also talks about the importance of patients understanding doctors clearly, and the value of a translation service when managing the health of culturally and linguistically diverse patients. Thank you, Sarah, for your clarity and insights.
Episode four: COVID-19 and older people
In this COVID-19 Conversation, Jean talks about her experiences as an older person in Brisbane south during the COVID-19 pandemic. She talks about some of the difficulties and some of the solutions to challenges that older people are facing. She shares what is important and how some things might improve. Thank you, Jean, for your honesty and your determination.
