The Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM) is seeking expressions of interest from Queensland nurses for a free ‘Fundamentals of Sexual Health Nursing course’ at a yet-to-be-confirmed venue in Brisbane.

This one-day workshop is proposed to help attendees increase knowledge and skills in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexual health. Aligned with the Sexual Health Nursing Competency Standards for Primary Health Care Nurses (2013), the course will provide clinical skills, confidence and knowledge needed to care for the sexual health of patients and the community. In addition, there is a session focusing on methods to advocate for including sexual health, plus the resources to help negotiate this process.

The workshop, coordinated by ASHM, has been developed through collaboration between the New South Wales Sexually Transmissible Infections Programs Unit, Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) and Australasian Sexual Health and HIV Nurses Association. This course has been endorsed by APNA and allows participants to claim 6 CPD hours. This course is funded by Queensland Health.

The course will be run one day before the APNA National Conference, which takes place on the 10th and 12th of May.
