Event Details

This full-day training will increase the competency and confidence of health care professionals in communicating with patients from refugee and migrant backgrounds in aspects of reproductive and sexual health.  Participants will apply their own clinical knowledge and experience to a range of migration experiences including temporary, transient, permanent and time-specific migration and how they impact on reproductive and sexual health outcomes.    The workshop will include discussion, case studies and interactive group work.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop strategies for conversations about reproductive and sexual health with individuals from migrant backgrounds
  • Explain the process of accessing interpreting services and how interpreters can impact the consultation to improve patient outcomes
  • Summarise how to respond to a disclosure about female genital mutilation/cutting
  • Articulate principles of trauma-informed care.
