GP-led Respiratory Clinics now open across Brisbane’s south

Brisbane South PHN (primary health network) is pleased to announce the opening of four temporary GP-led Respiratory Clinics in the Brisbane south region, funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health. These clinics are being rolled out to offer additional care options for community members with possible symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever or respiratory symptoms.

Brisbane South PHN CEO, Mike Bosel, said the four clinics in Brisbane’s south would play a vital role in supporting patients through the pandemic.

“Respiratory clinics have a specific focus and strict infection controls in place to protect staff and patients. Clinic staff provide assessment and initial treatment as well as testing, where needed. The patient’s nominated general practice will receive the results to ensure continuity of care.

“General practices in the Brisbane South PHN region are open and continue to provide safe, high-quality care for people in our community. These temporary respiratory clinics are not designed to replace a patient’s regular GP, but to offer an additional service for people who may have COVID-19 to be assessed safely,” Mr Bosel said.

GPs may refer patients to a Respiratory Clinic for testing to help reduce the risk of infection to other patients at general practices. People with mild-to-moderate respiratory or flu-like symptoms like fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose or shortness of breath can also make an appointment themselves.

GP Respiratory Clinics are free for all patients.

GP referrals are being accepted now. Patients can also self-refer by calling or booking an appointment online.
