Victoria University -seeking medical practitioners for research project

Explore expectation of, and current utilisation of, traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM) treatments in communities from refugee backgrounds in Brisbane and Logan, SEQld”. This project is being conducted by student researcher Sandra Venables as part of a Masters Public Health (Global Nutrition & Active Living), Victoria University.

It has been demonstrated that migrants may not access the public health services if they do not understand the medical system of the host country, if there are language barriers or if they are seeking a traditional healer. The consequences to the treatments sought can be that they do not recover and then remain chronically ill after 12 months. Or, they may not disclose their T&CM treatments to the practitioners of the biomedical model, leading to compliance or interaction issues.

We are seeking to interview medical practitioners for this project. Please call Sandra on 0402 423 127
