Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visits South Brisbane Medicare Urgent Care Clinic

UQ Health Care and Brisbane South PHN were pleased to welcome Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to the new South Brisbane Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC).

Cornwall Street Medical Centre will be established as the South Brisbane Medicare UCC and will start seeing patients 23 October 2023.

With over 30% of presentations to the Mater Hospital Brisbane and Princess Alexandra Hospital being for non-urgent or semi-urgent care, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of urgent care services to help bridge the gap between GP care and the emergency department for people in the region.

Queensland Senator and Minister Murray Watt shared his endorsement, saying, ‘I know many southside families who have had to wait long hours at the emergency department for non-life-threatening issues. The South Brisbane Medicare UCC will mean southsiders who need urgent but not acute care, can get it quickly even if it’s outside standard hours – and all they’ll need is their Medicare card.’

The South Brisbane Medicare UCC represents one of 2 new Medicare Urgent Care Clinics for the Brisbane South region. The Logan (Browns Plains) Medicare UCC opened on 14 August 2023 and is located at 2-10 Grand Plaza Dr, Browns Plains QLD 4118.

Logan Medicare UCC is dedicated to providing timely medical attention to the community for urgent, yet non-life-threatening, health concerns in a general practice setting. The clinic is open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm, with extended hours commencing on Monday, 30th October 2023, when it will remain open until 10pm.

The new Medicare UCCs provides timely care for the community in a general practice setting, for urgent conditions like sprains and fractures, cuts, wounds and minor illnesses, infections and burns.
