Event description

People seeking mental health support may present to clinicians with a range of interrelated factors that can make it challenging to determine the most appropriate level of stepped care. The IAR is an initiative of the Australian Department of Health that provides a tool to assist general practitioners and clinicians to recommend the most appropriate level of care for a person seeking mental health support.

Brisbane South PHN is delivering training on the effective use of the IAR Decision Support Tool and how it can be implemented into practice.

**AUDIENCE: **

General Practitioners, GP Registrars and clinicians managing people seeking mental health support
GPS AND GP REGISTRARS WILL RECEIVE A $300 (GST EXCL.) REMUNERATION PAYMENT FOR TRAINING COMPLETION (see note).

NOTE: Payment is not available to other medical staff or clinicians. Not available for GPs working in Commonwealth funded services (e.g. Adult Mental Health Centres, Aboriginal Medical Centres) unless training is completed outside of paid employment. Training is for Australian GPs and GPs Registrars who are registered with AHPRA. Please email iar@bsphn.org.au for further information.

  LEARNING OUTCOMES:
• Describe the principles and advantages underpinning the national approach to stepped care
• Describe the benefits of using the IAR-DST and have confidence in the IAR development process
• Implement the IAR Guidance in practice settings, using the domains and the decision support tool to generate a recommended level of care
• Outline the levels of care and can determine regional services matched against the levels of care
• Interpret the principles related to clinical decision making and consumer choice and can practice following these principles using supported decision-making strategies
