In this one-day workshop, students receive up to date information and best practice knowledge on Diabetes education, inclusive of Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes. It has been developed specifically to meet the needs of individuals who support patients with, or at risk of developing, Diabetes.

The workshop is designed to provide a broad range of skills and knowledge that can deliver immediate results for patients. The learning outcomes include:

o Refresh knowledge on the pathophysiology of diabetes and different types of diabetes mellitus.
o Describe common diabetes medications, their actions, side effects and contraindications.
o Discuss insulin therapy, including different modes of actions and the education to offer clients around insulin administration.
o Demonstrate an understanding of hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia and diabetic ketoacidosis.
o Review principles of Blood Glucose Monitoring and the education to offer to clients regarding this.
o Explore psychological impact of living with diabetes.
o Understand your local diabetes care pathways.
