Event description
Join our Chair, Professor Garry Jennings, alongside an expert panel featuring international expert Prof. Liesbeth Van Rossum and Australian specialists, for a clinical webinar exploring the profound relationship between obesity and CVD.
In Australia, approximately 65% of individuals aged 15 and over are overweight or obese, significantly increasing their risk of CVD. The causes of obesity are multifaceted, involving genetic, epigenetic, psychosocial, sociocultural, economic, and environmental factors.
With obesity now recognised as a complex, chronic disease, our expert panel will unpack the latest research findings, epidemiology, and innovative treatment modalities for obesity and CVD. This webinar will offer practical insights and explore strategies to enhance CVD risk factor management in primary healthcare settings.
‘Weighing in’ will feature one hour of live didactic presentations, followed by an extended 30-minute audience Q&A with opportunities to pre-submit questions.
Take part in this interactive webinar to hear from our expert panel on topics such as:
- Defining obesity as a complex chronic disease, including epidemiology, and pharmacological management.
- Understanding the SELECT trial and other glucose lowering pharmacotherapies in obesity treatment and management.
- Exploring the role of bariatric surgery in reducing weight and improving CVD outcomes.
- Lifestyle and behaviour change interventions for obesity.
- Practical strategies for optimising obesity and CVD risk factor management within the primary care setting.
