Brisbane South PHN supports children's health preparedness at CHQ Get Ready Day
Brisbane South PHN joined Children's Health Queensland (CHQ) and community partners at Get Ready Day 2026, helping children, families and carers learn how to prepare for disasters and extreme weather events.
The event brought together health, community and emergency management organisations to share practical resources and information that can help people stay safe, healthy and connected to care before, during and after an emergency.
Helping people stay connected to care during emergencies
Disasters can create additional challenges for people who rely on medications, medical equipment, regular healthcare appointments or ongoing support services.
Through its partnership with Children's Health Queensland, Brisbane South PHN is helping raise awareness of simple steps people can take to prepare for these disruptions, including completing a Health Action Plan and considering how they would access healthcare, medications and support services during an emergency.
The event provided an opportunity to speak with families, clinicians and community organisations about health preparedness and the importance of planning ahead, particularly for people with complex health needs.
Brisbane South PHN also shared information about local health services and resources that can support community wellbeing before, during and after emergencies, including:
Medicare Mental Health Services
Medicare Urgent Care Clinics
Brisbane South Health Pathways
Supporting community resilience through collaboration
Get Ready Day highlighted the value of collaboration between healthcare providers, hospitals, community organisations and emergency management partners in building more resilient communities.
By working together, organisations can help improve access to trusted health information, strengthen preparedness and support continuity of care when emergencies disrupt daily life.
Brisbane South PHN also promoted the Connected and Prepared program, delivered in partnership with Gold Coast PHN. The free workshops support community members, carers and health professionals to understand how emergencies may affect health and to develop practical plans before a disaster occurs.
