Clinic opens Monday 29 December 2025
Commissioned by Brisbane South PHN and funded by the Australian Government, the clinic is operated by Capalaba Family Medical Centre and opened its doors on Monday 29 December 2025 to provide treatment for urgent medical conditions which are non-life-threatening and don’t require treatment in a hospital emergency department.
Capalaba Family Medical Centre was chosen as the successful applicant following an Expression of Interest (EOI) process open to all general practices within the Capalaba statistical area (Capalaba SA3).
Capalaba clinic location and operating hours
The Capalaba Medicare UCC is located at 2/8 Dollery Road, Capalaba.
It operates from 8 am to 8 pm, all 7 days of the week, with extended hours of 8 am to 10 pm commencing around mid-January 2026.
Patients do not need an appointment or referral to attend the clinic. They can walk-in and wait to be seen by the clinic’s experienced doctors and nurses for bulk-billed (free) urgent health care.
Delivering urgent care services to Redlands and Brisbane’s eastern suburbs
The Capalaba Medicare UCC is designed to deliver high-quality urgent care to help alleviate pressure on hospital emergency departments.
It is 1 of 3 clinics to open in late 2025/early 2026, ensuring people living in the region have access to urgent care close to where they live, while no singular Medicare Urgent Care Clinic becomes overwhelmed beyond its capacity to care for patients who require same-day treatment.
The Capalaba Medicare Urgent Care Clinic is the fifth clinic to open in the Brisbane South PHN region, joining other Medicare UCCsin the following locations:
About the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) service model
The Australian Government’s Medicare UCC model provides urgent treatment for episodic conditions such as minor fractures, burns, cuts requiring stitches, and infections. These services are bulk billed and designed for walk-in visits as an alternative option to hospital emergency departments for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
Medicare UCCs complement existing general practice and emergency services, not replace them. Medicare UCC’s are unable to see people for treatment for chronic disease management or preventative health procedures.
