First Nations resources to help support palliative care at home
caring@home is a National Palliative Care Project funded by the Australian Government to improve access to quality, home-based end-of-life care and provide evidence-based resources and education for health professionals.
caring@home has released updated resources to support First Nations peoples who are receiving palliative care at home. When patients prefer to receive care at home or on Country, these resources can be provided to help guide them and their family and loved ones through what to expect and how to manage symptoms at home.
About the palliative care resources for First Nations families
New First Nations palliative care resources include factsheets to support the use of infusion devices. These factsheets feature:
plain language and images about common types of infusion devices
explanations on why infusions devices are used and how they work
guidance on how families and carers can help check infusion devices.
The suite of tip sheets to help support the management of physical symptoms a person may experience at end of life have also been updated, including a new tip sheet on fluid in the gut.
Hard copies of these free resources can be printed to provide to families and carers when needed.
