Free hearing screening for eligible patients aged 9 months to 16 years

Children’s Health Queensland’s (CHQ) Community Hearing Screening Clinics offer free hearing screening for eligible babies, children and young people aged from 9 months to 16 years.

The clinics accept parent and patient referrals, as well as general practitioner (GP)/clinician referrals.

Hearing screenings are done by allied health assistants with the oversight of an audiologist.

Is your patient eligible for a free hearing screening?

Free hearing screening services are available for Medicare-eligible children and young people aged 9 months to 16 years who:

  • have not had a hearing screening or hearing test within the past 12 months

  • need a screening as part of a developmental or behavioural assessment

  • live within the catchment areas

  • have difficulty with (or, if parents/carers are concerned about):

    • hearing

    • speech and language development

    • learning and behaviour.

Patients, parents or carers with current concerns can call 3290 8970 or make an enquiry online to discuss a screening.

Self-referrals are accepted.
