Free training: End-of-life law for GPs
Funded by the Australian Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, End of Life Law for Clinicians (ELLC) is a free national training program for general practitioners (GPs), other doctors and aged care health professionals, about end-of-life decision-making laws in Australia and how these laws effect end-of-life care and palliative care for patients.
Clinicians are invited to join ELLC’s upcoming free webinar — Voluntary assisted dying in general practice: Legal and clinical insights. This webinar will cover:
legal requirements for having voluntary assisted dying (VAD) conversations
GPs’ roles in relation to VAD
eligibility requirements for VAD
decision-making capacity in the context of VAD
law on VAD administration.
About the ‘Voluntary assisted dying in general practice: Legal and clinical insights’ webinar
The webinar runs for an hour and 15 minutes and will explore the legal and clinical aspects of VAD in general practice through a clinical case study.
Presented by Dr Eliana Close (End of Life Law for Clinicians, Australian Centre for Health Law Research, Queensland University of Technology) and Dr Penny Burns (General Practitioner), the webinar content has been designed specifically for GPs and other primary healthcare staff to provide core knowledge about:
voluntary assisted dying (VAD) in clinical practice
the legal obligations for GPs related to VAD.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions through the online chat function and to engage with interactive poll questions.
GPs who attend the webinar can choose to receive a Statement of Attendance for their attendance to be reported to the RACGP for continuing professional development (CPD), as this webinar is an RACGP-approved CPD activity under the RACGP CPD Program.
