Logan Medicare Mental Health Centre set to expand following funding announcement
The Logan Medicare Mental Health Centre is set to expand its services following the 30 July announcement of new Australian Government funding, increasing the centre's capacity to provide free, walk-in mental health support for people across the Logan area and surrounds.
Since opening in December 2024, the Logan Medicare Mental Health Centre has become an important entry point for people seeking free, timely mental health support, without the need for an appointment or referral.
The expansion follows growing demand for the service and will increase the centre's capacity to support more people across the Logan community.
Expanding access to same-day, walk-in mental health care
Commissioned by Brisbane South PHN and delivered by Footprints Community, the Logan Medicare Mental Health Centre provides free mental health support, care navigation and connections to local health and community services. Medicare Mental Health Centres are staffed by multidisciplinary teams which bring together mental health professionals and peer workers ready to listen to and understand your patient’s situation and provide the best possible care.
Brisbane South PHN Chief Executive Officer Mike Bosel welcomed the funding announcement and said the expansion reflects the important role the Logan Medicare Mental Health Centre has quickly established within the region's mental healthcare system.
‘The Logan Medicare Mental Health Centre has become an important access point for people seeking free mental health support close to home. Increasing the centre's capacity will help ensure more people can access timely care and support while strengthening connections between general practices, hospitals, community mental health providers and other local health services’, said Mr Bosel.
The Australian Government announced the additional funding as part of a broader package of national mental health investments.
Working alongside general practice to support community mental health and wellbeing
The support offered at Logan Medicare Mental Health Centre complements care provided by general practitioners (GPs) and other primary healthcare professionals. People can access the centre directly for free and without a referral, offering people immediate support for their mental health.
GPs and other healthcare professionals are also encouraged to consider the service for patients who may benefit from timely support or assistance navigating available mental health services. Phone Medicare Mental Health for patient referral support on 1800 595 212.
