The impacts of extreme weather events and natural disasters like ex-Cylcone Alfred can have long-term effects on people’s mental health and wellbeing. Stress, fear and anxiety are common emotions that can commonly present in your patients during these times.
Mental health support for primary health workers
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to all primary health professionals and staff to support their wellbeing. The service provides a high-quality, short-term, professional counselling service to assist with personal and work-related issues. This is a confidential service, and no identifying information is reported back to Brisbane South PHN.
To access this support, call 1800 818 728, state that you are calling for the Brisbane South PHN EAP, and identify yourself as ‘primary care’ staff. Consultations can also be booked via accesseap.com.au.

Medicare Mental Health Centres in the Brisbane South PHN region
Medicare Mental Health Centres offer people access to a safe, welcoming space to talk to mental health professionals if they, or someone they care about, are in distress or need help finding the right mental health support. People can walk-in without an appointment and a Medicare card is not required to access the free service.

Brisbane South PHN has commissioned Neami National to deliver the Medicare Mental Health Phone Service locally. The Phone Service is the preferred referral pathway for patients in the Brisbane South PHN region.
