New lung cancer screening pilot: help us support early detection and treatment

Brisbane South PHN will launch a new lung cancer screening pilot aimed at improving the early detection of lung cancer within general practice. The project seeks to achieve this using your general practice’s clinical information system (Best Practice or Medical Director), Primary Sense reports, custom built dashboards, with dedicated support and guidance through educational webinars, face-to-face visits and check-ins.

This partnership aims to:

  • improve awareness of lung cancer risk factors and symptoms

  • increase the lung cancer screening rates of high-risk individuals

  • promote early identification of lung cancer and thus reduce the stage of cancer at diagnosis

  • improve health outcomes for the patient population.

About the Brisbane South PHN Lung Cancer Screening Pilot

Like the Australian Government’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program, this pilot project aims to increase early detection of lung cancer in the community through screening. However, it also broadens the scope of screening by seeking to identify at-risk patients who fall outside the national eligibility criteria.

Essential information:

  • The pilot will run from approximately June until November 2025.

  • Funding for participation is provided by the pharmaceutical company partner.

  • Industry partnership is governed by Brisbane South PHN’s Industry Partnership Policy, and the partner has no control or input into the content, tone, emphasis, allocation of funds or selection of participants. Brisbane South PHN does not endorse or promote any partner’s product or service. Brisbane South PHN will not share or provide practice level data to the funder.

  • Participation can be used towards claiming continuing professional development (CPD) hours.
