New toolkits are available for primary care clinicians providing early medical abortion

Australian Contraception and Abortion Primary Care Practitioner Support Network (AusCAPPS), is an online community of practice for primary care clinicians who want to increase safe access to effective contraception and medical abortion care. This community of practice is designed to help clinicians connect with peers and access expert knowledge and information.

AusCAPPS are funded by the Department of Health as part of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) research partnership grant.

Toolkits available for primary care workforces

The AusCAPPS Network has developed 2 new toolkits for GPs, practice nurses, nurse practitioners, midwives, pharmacists, and practice and pharmacy support staff to use when discussing early medical abortion (EMA) care with patients:

  1. Communicating with patients about medical abortion in primary care — This toolkit includes tips on language to use, content to discuss and resources you can recommend to patients for additional information or support.

  2. MS-2 Step: Frequently Asked Questions — This toolkit supports clinicians when answering patients' questions about EMA and MS-2 Step.
