Oxley Medicare Urgent Care Clinic opens to provide free urgent care to communities in south-west Brisbane

People living in south-west Brisbane, including Inala, Darra, Forest Lake and surrounding areas now have greater access to free, walk-in care for urgent medical conditions with the opening of the Oxley Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC).

Commissioned by Brisbane South PHN and funded by the Australian Government, the clinic is operated by Growlife Medical Oxley and opened its doors on Tuesday 26 November 2024 to provide treatment for urgent medical conditions which are non-life-threatening and don’t require treatment in a hospital emergency department.

Clinic location and operating hours

The Oxley Medicare UCC is located at 169 Seventeen Mile Rocks Road, Oxley QLD 4075, within the Canossa Hospital complex.

It operates from 8 am to 8 pm, all 7 days of the week, providing accessible urgent care for the local community.

People do not need an appointment or referral for care. They can walk-in and wait to be seen by the clinic’s highly-trained doctors and nurses for bulk billed urgent health care.

Delivering urgent care services to south-west Brisbane

The Oxley Medicare UCC is designed to deliver high-quality urgent care to the south-west Brisbane area, helping to alleviate pressure on hospital emergency departments, particularly the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital Emergency Department.

The general location of this third Medicare UCC for the Brisbane South PHN region was carefully considered in close consultation with the Queensland Government and the Commonwealth.

Brisbane South PHN CEO Mike Bosel said the new service will make vital healthcare more accessible to south-west Brisbane communities. ‘The new Oxley Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will not only help ease demand on local hospital emergency departments, but also bring essential bulk-billed urgent medical services closer to local communities in need,’ he said.

By offering a walk-in service open for extended hours, every day of the week, Medicare Urgent Care Clinics ensure that more people receive the care they need, closer to home, when their condition isn’t an emergency, but it can’t wait for a regular appointment with a GP.

Brisbane South PHN’s General Manager of System Integration and Coordination, Laura Casey, added, ‘We’re pleased to support the opening of a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in south-west Brisbane.

‘It’s a significant step in enhancing healthcare access and outcomes for our multicultural communities,’ she said.

The Oxley clinic is the third Medicare UCC in the Brisbane South PHN region, joining the Logan (Browns Plains) and South Brisbane clinics, which opened in 2023.

About the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) service model
