Primary Health Nurses Day 2026: Celebrating and supporting practice nurses in our region
In celebration of Primary Health Care Nurses Day on Wednesday 4 February 2026, we wish to acknowledge and give thanks to primary health care nurses whose skills are essential at every stage of care, from prevention and early intervention, to providing ongoing patient support in communities.
In support of nurses, we also want to highlight the Practice Nurse Support Program (PNSP) and Practice Nurse Online Learning (PNOL), developed and delivered by Brisbane South PHN, as opportunities for practice nurses in our region to enhance their skills and knowledge and join a community of peers.
About the Practice Nurse Support Program (PNSP)
Brisbane South PHN knows that the role of a practice nurse is unique, often requiring specialised knowledge and skills that can differ to nursing in hospitals or community health services. To meet this need, the PNSP is tailored to support new graduates and nurses who are new to general practice within the Brisbane South PHN region.
The program offers comprehensive education modules that cover topics like immunisation and vaccine management, infection prevention and sterilisation, chronic disease management, preventative health, accreditation and more.
Beyond education, the PNSP provides ongoing support, advice, and mentoring.

Delivered through DiscoverPHN, our online learning and collaboration portal, the Practice Nurse Online Learning (PNOL) platform ensures that participants have access to Continuing Professional Development opportunities aligned with their scope of practice.

Celebrate nurses this Primary Health Care Nurses Day
Primary Health Care Nurses Day is an opportunity to recognise the nurses who deliver essential care in general practice, community health, aged care, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, corrections and more.
Celebrations run on the Wednesday 4 February 2026 are a chance for us all to champion the importance of primary health care nurses who support the health and wellbeing of millions of Australians. The theme for 2026 focuses on the important role nurses play in prevention, early intervention, connection and community care.
