Protect patients before heart attacks and strokes happen — A whole-of-practice approach
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are Australia’s second biggest killer, accounting for 27% of deaths nationwide. The good news is that earlier identification, smarter systems and better use of practice data can dramatically change outcomes.
Brisbane South PHN is proud to offer a series of hands-on Best Practice and Medical Director training sessions with a tailored focus on CVD prevention, early intervention and practice efficiency.
These free, face-to-face training sessions, led by accredited trainer Katrina Otto of Train IT Medical, and form part of the statewide PHASES (Preventing Heart Attack and Stroke Events through Surveillance) initiative.
You’ll also gain a forward-looking perspective on AI, new technologies and privacy considerations, helping your practice prepare confidently for 2026.
Why PHASES matters for general practice
PHASES is a statewide screening, recall and treatment program that support general practices to:
prevent and manage cardiovascular disease (CVD)
drive earlier intervention and optimise care
reduce the burden of disease on patients and the health system.
PHASES aims to transform cardiovascular health in Queensland through the use of:
data-driven, clinical tools such as Primary Sense and the Australian CVD Risk Calculator
practice-level quality improvement (QI) support
a consumer awareness campaign to improve patient engagement.
What you’ll get from these training sessions
These sessions go well beyond the basics. You’ll walk away with practical, time-saving skills you can apply immediately, including how to:
use high-quality data to improve CVD identification, referrals and care planning
work smarter in Best Practice and Medical Director with advanced tips and shortcuts
optimise billing and claiming
introduce new technology efficiencies, including AI, safely and appropriately
strengthen your practice’s QI activities to support better patient outcomes
This training is valued at over $300, with meals included — and is completely free to attend.
