Become a University of Queensland GP Teacher in 2025: Help shape the future of general practice
Want to play a key role in securing the future of general practice? Consider teaching University of Queensland (UQ) medical students in your general practice.
If you’re passionate about shaping the next generation of doctors and fostering their interest in general practice, now is the perfect time to get involved.
Why teach UQ medical students in your practice?
Providing clinical placements for students in your practice enables GP teachers to build teaching skills and can attract continuing professional development (CPD) hours.
You can obtain a UQ Academic Title (e.g. Senior Lecturer) and gain access to the extensive UQ library collection including eTG (Therapeutic Guidelines), Australian Medicines Handbook (AMH) and more.
Clinical placements also attract the Teaching Payment for practices registered for the Practice Incentives Program (PIP). Currently, each eligible teaching session attracts a $200 practice payment. (Source: Teaching Payment PIP guidelines 2).
UQ's GP liaison team provides support for GP teachers with written resources, face-to-face educational events and can respond quickly to queries over email, phone or with practice visits.
Types of available teaching opportunities
In 2025 UQ medical student teaching opportunities include:
Year 2 medical students: A longitudinal placement of 1 day per week for 15 weeks. This is a fantastic opportunity for those working part-time or those new to teaching.
Year 3 or 4 medical students: A block placement of approximately 5 half days per week for 6 to 8 weeks is available. The time commitment can be shared by multiple GPs in a practice.
