Borderline personality disorder and dialectical behaviour therapy — Free training for GPs and nurses

Working with patients who are experiencing symptoms and effects of borderline personality disorder (BPD) can be rewarding, though challenging when working within the time constraints of general practice. To support your practice, Brisbane South PHN and Metro South Addiction and Mental Health Service have partnered to deliver free, CPD‑eligible learning opportunities for time-limited GPs and practice nurses.

These learning opportunities offer both foundational knowledge and practical, consultation‑ready skills. Participants have the option of attending an online, 90-minute webinar, as well as an optional one-day workshop for those wanting a deeper understanding.

Free ‘Working Well with Borderline Personality Disorder’ webinar

This webinar has been specifically designed for GPs and practice nurses. It covers the basics of understanding borderline personality disorder (BPD), while focusing on practical ideas that can be applied directly in clinical settings.

Participants can expect to:

  • build a stronger understanding of BPD presentations

  • increase their level of confidence in caring for patients experiencing BPD

  • gain practical knowledge for working with patients experiencing BPD.

The 90-minute webinar is offered on 3 separate days:

  • Wednesday, 1 April 2026

    6 pm to 7:30 pm

  • Wednesday, 13 May 2026

    6 pm to 7:30 pm

  • Wednesday, 17 June 2026

    6 pm to 7:30 pm

Free, in‑person ‘Deeper Dive into Working Well with Borderline Personality Disorder and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy’ workshop

Practice-informed dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD). There is evidence to suggest DBT can also benefit patients experiencing emotional and behavioural dysregulation concerns and chronic suicide ideation.

Clinicians looking to expand their skills beyond the foundations of BPD can attend a free, one‑day workshop. This workshop is designed to equip GPs and practice nurses with a toolbox of practical strategies tailored to the realities of time‑limited consultations.

Please note: Attendance at 1 of the webinar sessions is required to participate in the one‑day workshop. This will ensure workshop participants share a common foundation of knowledge.
