As a GP Supervisor, I teach because I want to give back to a profession. Teaching keeps me engaged, sharp and inspired, and the energy students bring to practice is infectious. At a time when we’re facing critical workforce challenges, investing in student placements isn’t just a feel-good activity, it’s a strategic move to secure the future of general practice.

Dr Lynne Reid, GP Supervisor, July 30th, 2025

In 2025 UQ medical student teaching opportunities include:

  • Year 2 medical students: A longitudinal placement of 1 day per week for 15 weeks. This is a fantastic opportunity for those working part-time or those new to teaching.

  • Year 3 or 4 medical students: A block placement of approximately 5 half days per week for 6 to 8 weeks is available. The time commitment can be shared by multiple GPs in a practice.

Benefits of teaching UQ medical students in your general practice include:

  • continuing professional development (CPD) hours

  • Teaching Payment for practices registered for the Practice Incentives Program (PIP)

  • support from UQ's GP liaison team, such as written resources, face-to-face educational events and can support over email, phone or with practice visits.

You can register your interest in becoming a GP teacher online.
