Free ophthalmology alignment workshop for GPs and optometrists: Gain skills to effectively manage stable, low-progression eye disease in your general practice
Eligible GPs and optometrists are invited to express their interest in Metro South Health’s upcoming Ophthalmology Alignment Workshop to be held on 26 October 2025.
By participating in the free workshop, general practitioners (GPs) and optometrists will obtain the skills to be part of Metro South Health’s community alignment program.
The workshop is designed to upskill community optometrists and GPs to effectively manage stable, low-progression eye disease in their practices, reducing the need for patients to receive hospital-based care.

Become an aligned practitioner to better support patients in the community
By participating in the free Ophthalmology Alignment Workshop, GPs and optometrists can obtain the skills to be part of Metro South Health’s community alignment program.
Aligned practitioners play a key role in reducing pressure on hospital services by supporting patients in the community, while ensuring continuity of care through close collaboration with Metro South Health’s ophthalmology team.
This program works to connect community-based clinicians with hospital-based specialists to:
improve the management of stable, low-progression eye disease
provide patients with high quality care closer to home.

The workshop will cover the latest evidence-based approaches and clinical guidelines for managing low-progression eye diseases, ensuring attendees are informed on current practices.
