Brisbane South PHN’s Quality Improvement (QI) case studies showcase how general practices in our region are using data-driven, team-based approaches to strengthen patient care and outcomes. From chronic disease management to preventive health, these quality improvement examples highlight practical, achievable strategies that any general practice can start using today.
One such case study follows how Morningside General Practice achieved a 298% increase in influenza vaccination rates through dedicated clinics, streamlined workflows, and strong team engagement.

MyMedicare update
MyMedicare strengthens continuity of care with a patient’s regular practice, while still allowing patients to attend any practice for care when needed.
What patients need to know
Participating in MyMedicare does not limit where a patient can go for immediate or unplanned care.
For ongoing and planned care (such as chronic condition management plans and reviews) patients should attend the practice they are registered with under MyMedicare, to support continuity and coordinated care.
What practices need to know
Practices can continue to see any patient for care, regardless of whether they are registered in MyMedicare.
Reinforce that while patients can seek urgent or same-day care anywhere, MyMedicare strengthens continuity of care by supporting patients to return to their regular practice for ongoing and planned care.
Explain to patients that they need to attend their MyMedicare registered practice for chronic condition management, care plans and reviews.

Changes to immunisation authorisations in Queensland
From 1 March 2026, changes to the Medicines and Poisons (Medicines) Regulation 2021 allow certain health professionals in Queensland to initiate and administer Schedule 4 (S4) immunisation medicines without a prescription, provided they have completed recognised immunisation training and are working within their scope of practice.
This as‑of‑right authorisation applies to:
registered nurses
midwives
pharmacists
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners.
Practitioners providing immunisation services must comply with relevant Queensland legislation and uphold professional obligations, including:
administration of immunisation medicines
management and reporting of Adverse Events and Vaccine Administration Errors
submit immunisation data to the Australian Immunisation Register
adhere to the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines: Strive for 5 and current national and state clinical resources.
The Queensland Health Immunisation Program has developed the Guideline to support the safe delivery of immunisation services in Queensland.
