Have your say! Help strengthen social services in Queensland

Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) is Queensland’s peak body for the social service sector.

QCOSS works to eliminate inequity and disadvantage in our society by:

  • advocating on behalf of low-income communities to government

  • undertaking policy analysis and research on critical issues such as tax reform and poverty

  • working in close association with the Australian Council of Social Service and other State and Territory Councils of Social Service.

Have your say and help strengthen social services in Queensland

The work social service providers do to help Queenslanders who are experiencing inequality and disadvantage is fundamental to the improvement of our local communities’ health and wellbeing. Despite this, social service providers often face difficulties when it comes to securing adequate funding, resources and recognition.

QCOSS is working to remove these difficulties, but first they need your knowledge and insight about what is happening on the ground.

If you work in the social service sector, the feedback you provide QCOSS about your job, workplace and the sector at large is invaluable. Your insights help QCOSS set their advocacy agenda and provides them with an evidence base to show government what needs to improve.

The survey takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete, and personal information gathered is confidential.

The survey closes Friday 9 May 2025.

What happens to the information I provide?

QCOSS will use the survey responses to develop positions on issues impacting the community sector. The results of the survey will also be used to inform QCOSS’ annual State of the Sector report.

Based on information gathered in previous years, QCOSS has achieved:

  • higher indexation for service delivery contract

  • millions of dollars for community neighbourhood-centres

  • a Queensland Government commitment to ‘providing greater funding certainty through longer (5-year) contracts'.

Social workers in general practice

Brisbane South PHN are working with general practices to help improve social health by piloting models to incorporate social workers into general practice teams.

Enabling patient access to on-site social workers at their general practice can enable a holistic assessment of health concerns and help address social determinants of health such as lifestyle, housing, and family stressors.

If you are a social worker interested in receiving updates and information about this initiative as it develops, please register your interest at support@bsphn.org.au.
