Help increase cancer screening: Free resources available for general practices
Cancer screening saves lives but less than half of eligible Australians do their bowel, breast, and cervical cancer screening. GPs can support and encourage patients to do their cancer screening to help increase patient participation in these lifesaving national programs.
Participate in the Bowel Cancer Screening Project
Brisbane South PHN has partnered with The Daffodil Centre and University of Sydney to monitor the effectiveness of the promotion of bowel screening to patients from general practice teams. The Bowel Cancer Screening Project has been developed to:
- Understand how practices currently support patients with bowel cancer screening.
- Implement bowel cancer screening intervention in practices and track progress to identify effective implementation.
Express your interest in the project
Local general practices are invited to complete the online form to express interest in the Bowel Cancer Screening Project by Monday 26 August.
Please submit your application at your earliest convenience to avoid missing out. Successful applicants will be contacted in due course.
To learn more about this project, please contact our team at support@bsphn.org.au.
Free resource packs to help encourage your patients to undergo screening
General practices across Australia will receive cancer screening packs from the Department of Health and Aged Care to help remind eligible patients to undergo cancer screening. The packs include resources your practice can use to encourage your patients to be more proactive about cancer screening, such as:
- posters
- illustrated guides
- sample bowel kits and cervical self-collection demonstration tests.
When you receive the kit, make sure to hang up the posters and share the packs among the GPs at your practice. Translated versions are available online for printing in-practice.
If your general practice did not receive a pack or would like to order another, please email your practice details to cancerscreeningcommunications@health.gov.au.
