Immunisation updates for vaccine providers: April 2026
Updates to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccinations
From 15 May 2026, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines will be funded through the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for:
First Nations patients aged 60 years and over
patients aged 75 years and over.
To help improve vaccine uptake and protect our community, general practices and other vaccine providers are encouraged to:
use the Primary Sense health assessment report to identify all patients aged 75 years and over
co-administer the RSV vaccine while patients are at your practice. RSV vaccine can safely be co-administered with influenza, COVID and pneumococcal vaccines.

FluMist reminder from Queensland Health
FluMist is the new needle-free nasal spray flu vaccine for children aged 2 to 5 years (inclusive).
While it is funded for free for 2 to 5 year olds, children aged 6 to 17 can also receive the nasal spray.
Immunisation providers immunising children aged 6 to 17 years (inclusive) with FluMist should use their privately purchased FluMist stock for these patients.
Providers should reduce the cost charged to the patient for the immunisation by $25 and then claim $25 reimbursement from Queensland Health by including it in their invoice as a non-NIP privately purchased vaccine.

Free COVID and pneumococcal SMS recall programs available for your practice
In partnership with GoShare, Brisbane South PHN is inviting practices to register for pneumococcal and/or COVID-19 vaccination recall activities.
Available to practices using MedicalDirector or Best Practice software, these activities offer free SMS credits to identify and recall eligible patients:
Aged 70+ for Pneumococcal Vaccination Activity
Aged 75+ for Covid-19 Vaccination Activity.
After submitting an expression of interest for the pneumococcal activity and/or covid-19 activity, GoShare will contact your practice with next steps. The activity takes around 15 minutes for practice staff to set up.
