Brisbane South PHN is pleased to invite general practitioners (GPs) and practice teams to a special dinner event, Beyond the Consultation: Practical Approaches to Patient Management, on Wednesday 15 October 2025.
We are delighted to welcome back 2 highly regarded leaders in primary care and health reform to present on the night:
Dr Kirsten Meisinger, Harvard Medical School — Dr Meisinger is an internationally renowned expert on patient-centred medical homes, population health, value-based care and healthcare systems transformation.
Dr Walid Jammal, Hills Family General Practice — Dr Jammal is a nationally renowned expert in person-centred care, quality improvement and higher-performing primary healthcare with a strong background in Australian health policy.
Together, Dr Meisinger and Dr Jammal will share their insights into the evolving landscape of primary health reforms and value-based care, highlighting practical strategies that support GPs to deliver patient-centred, preventive healthcare.

Dr Walid Jammal
Dr Walid Jammal is a Western Sydney GP and nationally recognised leader in health policy, reform, and models of care. He holds a Masters in Health Law from the University of Sydney and has a strong interest in quality and safety in healthcare, health economics, and innovative models of general practice such as the Patient Centred Medical Home.
Dr Jammal contributes extensively through his work on advisory bodies with New South Wales Health and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, including as a member of the Medicare Services Advisory Committee and the former Strengthening Medicare Taskforce.
In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Sidney Sax Medal for his outstanding contributions to the development and improvement of Australia’s healthcare system (the highest honour of its kind) in recognition of a career dedicated to strengthening healthcare policy, organisation and delivery.
Dr Kirsten Meisinger
Dr Kirsten Meisinger is an internationally recognised expert in healthcare system transformation, primary care reform and patient-centred care. A family doctor by training, she is member of the core faculty at Harvard Medical School’s Center for Primary Care where she leads the System Transformation team.
She has held leadership roles in large-scale reform initiatives in the United States, including co-chairing the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ landmark Transforming Clinical Practices Initiative, which guided over 140,000 practices toward value-based, patient-centred care.
Dr Meisinger’s expertise extends globally, having led projects in Brazil, Nicaragua, Nepal and China, and serving on Australia’s national Health Care Homes expert panel. With her deep commitment to health equity and innovative models of care, she is shaping the future of primary healthcare around the world.
