Last chance: Free applications for the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential for GPs

Finding GPs who are knowledgeable in the safe care and treatment of eating disorders can be difficult for people living with an eating disorder and their families and support networks. In turn, referring health professionals have highlighted their difficulty in locating GPs with the knowledge, practical skills and experience required to assess, diagnose and coordinate treatment and teams-care for people with eating disorders.

To help overcome this barrier to better care for people living with eating disorders, GPs can now become Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinicians for free until Sunday 30 June 2024. Apply online now.

About the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential

With support from the Department of Health and Aged Care, the Australia and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED) is expanding the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential to GPs to enhance the effectiveness and
consistency of care for eating disorders in Australia.

The ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential provides GPs with formal recognition of qualifications, knowledge, training, and professional development activities needed for the delivery of safe and effective eating disorder care.

The Credential for GPs emphasises early identification and initial response for people with eating disorders. This encompasses screening, assessment, diagnosis and referral to appropriate treatment providers. Importantly, it connects help-seekers with Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinicians through a searchable directory on the connect·ed website.

Benefits of becoming credentialed

Once credentialed, GPs will receive public recognition for their knowledge and commitment to providing eating disorder care. This includes a post-nominal, certificate, digital badge and profile listing on the searchable directory. Credentialed GPs will also have access to webinars for ongoing professional development and an online moderated forum to connect with other GPs working in this space.
