Community grants available! Support for mental health and suicide prevention activities
The Australian Medical Association Queensland Foundation (AMA Queensland Foundation) has launched a community grant initiative.
The grants, administered in partnership with Brisbane South PHN, aim to support organisations in Queensland to:
expand access to mental health and suicide prevention supports
enhance mental health literacy in the community.
Grants of up to $20,000 per applicant will be available to eligible organisations.
Purpose of the community grants
This initiative is designed to empower Queensland communities to address mental health and suicide prevention in ways that are most relevant to their unique needs. By supporting local efforts that are rooted in the community’s values and experiences, these grants aim to create sustainable and meaningful change. This grant provides organisations the opportunity for initiatives that are culturally relevant, accessible, and effective in improving mental health and suicide prevention outcomes locally. Funding is available for initiatives/programs that:
increase mental health and suicide prevention awareness
support in reducing mental health and suicide stigma
promote the mental health and wellbeing of the local community
increase awareness of local services and pathways to accessing support.
Grant eligibility
Applicants must propose activities that align with one or more of the following objectives:
Capacity Building: Enhance organisational ability to support people with mental health and or suicidal ideation concerns, or their loved ones
Service Access: Improve access to vital support services for people experiencing suicidal ideation and / or their carers supporting them
Awareness Campaigns:
Increase awareness of mental health and suicide prevention support programs
Build awareness of healthy masculinity as a protective factor to suicide
Service Enhancement: Strengthen the capability and/or scope of existing services
Place-Based Support: Provide tailored, local opportunities to support people in specific communities
Innovation: Develop new, complementary activities to expand current organisational efforts.
Grant applicants are required to promote the AMA Queensland Foundation’s commitment to supporting people experiencing mental health concerns.
Queensland-based organisations that support people experiencing mental health concerns are encouraged to apply. This grant cannot duplicate existing funding. The grants will focus on organisations that:
Represent regional and remote geographical areas, First Nations groups, cultural and linguistically diverse groups, LGBTIQA+ community
are grassroot and community groups and /or networks
providing specific services to vulnerable populations to suicide (e.g. men, LGBTIQA+, First Nations and cultural and linguistically diverse)
deliver sustainable activities aligned with the grant objectives
who require additional support to expand their reach and impact
who will report back on their activity/initiative impact and outcome.

Applications close 3 pm, Tuesday 30 June 2026.
Applications will be reviewed by an evaluation panel, including representatives from the AMA Queensland Foundation.
Applicants will be informed of the outcomes, whether successful or unsuccessful, by 24 July 2026.
