About the Redlands Medicare Mental Health Centre

The centre offers people access to a safe, welcoming space to talk to mental health professionals if they, or someone they care about, are in distress or need help finding the right mental health support. People can walk-in without an appointment and a Medicare card is not required to access the free service.

The Redlands Medicare Mental health Centre offers:

  • immediate support to help reduce distress

  • in-house assessment, treatment and support without a referral or appointment

  • access to peer workers with lived mental health experience

  • multidisciplinary teams of social workers and counsellors offering short- and medium-term care.

This new Medicare Mental Health Centre means people across the Redlands and Islands communities can access free, walk-in mental health care and support from a multidisciplinary care team, including from peer workers—people with their own direct, lived experience. Someone who’s walked in your shoes and can walk beside you.

Breaking down barriers to mental health care

National demand for better access to mental health services is well documented. Nearly half of Australians aged 16 to 85 will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lives, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

The model of care offered by the Redlands Medicare Mental Health Centre is a significant step in addressing common challenges faced when seeking mental health care by ensuring people receive free and immediate support in a low-stigma setting, closer to home.
