PenCS Awards 2023: Congratulations to the winners in our region

We are proud to announce that 2 practices in the Brisbane South PHN region were selected as winners in the PenCS Data Awards for 2023. The PenCS Awards recognise excellence in data-driven quality improvement in General Practice and Aboriginal Medical Services across Australia by using health informatics.

Silky Oaks Medical Practice received the Award for Data Quality with a whole-of-practice approach to improve the recording of body mass index (BMI).

By using their data, they were able to identify gaps and streamline their practice's workflow to improve patient experiences and improve health records. They also incorporated a nurse check-in before doctor visits, which improved the patient experience as a whole for their clients.

Their efforts have improved the quality of their data and driven positive outcomes for their clients, positioning the team as leaders in positive change and innovation. Congratulations to Sara, Carolyn, Mel and the entire Silky Oaks Medical Practice team for their outstanding achievement.

Person-Centred Care Award winners

Grow Life Medical were the recipients of the Person-Centred Care Award, which recognises exceptional patient-centred care.

Focusing on cervical screening, the practice was able to transform data into identifiable areas of need. Through data utilisation, they were able to create actionable interventions at both the individual and population levels, which resulted in a 5% proportional improvement in cervical screening in each of their clinic locations.

In addition, a subsection of patients were surveyed to help inform what barriers to screening are most affecting their clients. This data is helping them to incorporate ideas to remove barriers and shape further activities within the clinics. Congratulations to the Grow Life Medical team for achieving such a great result.
