Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) update: More medicines now available for 60-day prescriptions

More Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) medicines are now available for 60-day prescriptions. This change means patients can access twice the medication on a single prescription. Prescribers can use their clinical judgement to decide whether patients receiving PBS medicines are eligible for 60-day prescriptions.

The list of almost 200 medicines available for a 60-day prescription is available on the Department of Health and Aged Care website.

The second stage of medicines available for 60-day prescriptions will support patients who live with ongoing health conditions such as (but no tlimited to):

  • breast cancer
  • bipolar disorder
  • diabetes
  • epilepsy
  • menopause
  • prostate cancer.

When the roll out of medicines is complete by September 2024, around 300 medicines will be available for a 60-day prescription.
