Queensland ban on puberty blockers for adolescents reinstated—Resources remain available to support clinicians
In late October 2025, the ban on the prescription of puberty blockers to adolescents with gender dysphoria was reinstated after the Supreme Court had overturned the earlier freeze.
This ministerial directive means clinicians working in the public health system are currently unable to prescribe puberty blockers to young people experiencing gender dysphoria, pending the outcome of an independent review expected in the coming months.
Professional bodies, clinical networks, and advisory services continue to offer evidence-based information, referral pathways, and peer support to help general practitioners (GPs) and primary care providers navigate care for gender diverse* patients appropriately and compassionately.
Read on to access resources and supports for primary healthcare care professionals that help maintain continuity of care, uphold professional standards, and support young gender diverse people and their families through this time.
