Free resources, tools and interpreting support to help deliver inclusive aged care
With over 240 languages spoken across our region, local aged care providers regularly see firsthand how connection to language and culture in care settings enhances people’s experiences of care, in turn helping to improve health and wellbeing outcomes overall.
Resources to support inclusive and responsive care to older people from diverse backgrounds
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has created a booklet that provides information for aged care providers about diversity-related programs, services and resources.

Free translating and interpreting services available for aged care providers
Approved providers of government subsidised aged care, peak bodies and Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care (PICAC) can access free translating and interpreting services to communicate with older people in different languages.
These services include:
free aged care translation service, which can translate aged care service materials into languages other than English
a 24/7 access to TIS National interpreting services, including phone, on-site and video remote interpreting to support communication with people in different languages.
Deaf Connect sign language interpreting and captioning service, an in-person and online sign language interpreting and live captioning to support older people to better engage with aged care services, through the National Sign Language Program.
Older people and their families can also access information in other languages on the My Aged Care website.
