Train in advanced procedural obstetrics: Support available for GPs
The Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women the Hon Shannon Fentiman recently announced a $42 million investment to support birthing in regional, rural, and remote areas of Queensland.
The Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway (QRGP) has received funding under this initiative to support Queensland General Practitioners to undertake Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Associate Training Program (Advanced Procedural) training in Queensland in 2025.
The QRGP offers support for aspiring Rural Generalists to undertake their training.
Available support and incentives for General Practitioners (GPs)
- Eligible candidates can access the Rural Generalist Obstetrics Training Support Program inclusions, such as onsite mentorship from experienced Rural Generalist Consultants, funded workshops, up to $20,000 to support training and course costs, and access to short-term high acuity, high case load placements if required.
- An additional $30,000 incentive is available for eligible practicing Fellows of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGPs) who provide primary care outside of a Queensland Health setting.
- FRACGPs already located in MMM3 – 7 can apply for the General Practitioner Procedural Training Support Program for up to $40,000 to support training.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible, applicants must:
- be qualified to work as a medical practitioner in Australia and hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Additional eligibility requirement still apply for access to the GP incentives as listed above
- work in a MMM3 – 7 Queensland birthing service upon completion of training
- hold an authorised contract of employment for an accredited Advanced Procedural training post.
