Vaccine management and storm readiness
With storm season already upon us in Southeast Queensland, it is important to check that your service’s power outage and cold chain breach procedures are up to date, your equipment is prepared, and staff have a good understanding of what to do with vaccines during a power outage or storm event.
Having a robust back-up plan can minimise the risk of:
vaccines being exposed to temperature fluctuations outside of the recommended range of +2 and +8 degrees Celsius
disruptions to service provision associated with cold chain breaches.
Further information can be found in this Queensland Government flyer and by accessing the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines ‘Strive for 5’.
For any additional support or advice relating to power outage procedures or cold chain breaches, contact the Metro South Public Health Unit on 3156 4000 for advice.
