Changes to the Organisation Register — MyMedicare and General Practice in Aged Care Incentive

Brisbane South PHN is here to support practices in our region to take necessary action as Services Australia rolls out key updates to the Organisation Register, effective as of Monday 9 December 2024. These changes aim to streamline processes and ensure practices meet the necessary requirements for MyMedicare eligibility and participation in the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive (GPACI).

How these changes may affect your practice:

1. New Mandatory Data Field: Practice Type

From December, all new practices registering for MyMedicare will be required to select a ‘practice type’ during the registration process. Existing practices are strongly encouraged to update this information in the Organisation Register as well.

Available options include:

  • General Practice

  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service

  • Aboriginal Medical Service

  • Mobile Practice

  • Outreach Practice

  • Sole Provider Practice

  • Nurse Practitioner-led Practice with a GP.

Updating your practice type helps ensure your records are accurate and aligned with MyMedicare requirements.

2. Accreditation details: Are your details up to date?

Accreditation dates recorded in the Organisation Register will play a pivotal role in determining MyMedicare eligibility for accredited general practices.

What does this mean for your practice?

  • Check and update your accreditation details and dates before 31 March 2025.

  • If your practice receives a renewal or new accreditation certificate, add a new entry in the system rather than overwriting existing records (unless correcting errors).

Working toward accreditation?

Practices pursuing accreditation under the 12-month grace period are unaffected. However, if accreditation is achieved within this timeframe, remember to update your accreditation status promptly.

Exemptions for mobile and outreach practices

Non-accredited practices (including sole providers) delivering services through mobile or outreach models have an accreditation exemption until 30 June 2025.
