Changes to accessing The Viewer through the Health Provider Portal (HPP)
On Sunday 6 April 2025, the QGov identity service provided by the Queensland Government will shift to the Queensland Digital Identity (QDI) system. This change affects primary care professionals using ‘The Viewer’ —Queensland’s Health Provider Portal for securely accessing read-only patient information stored by public hospitals Users will need to establish a Queensland Digital Identity (QDI) to continue using the Health Provider Portal (HPP) from Sunday 6 April.
About the Queensland Digital Identity (QDI)
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) originally developed the QDI system to support the Digital Licence app. The QDI system is modern, robust and innovative, using the latest industry technology to safeguard your private information, while helping to establish that you are who you say you are. The QDI system provides the same type of functionality that the QGov Identity Management system provided.
What will Health Provider Portal (HPP) account holders need to do?
If you do not have a Queensland Digital Identity (QDI) — users must create one via the Queensland Digital Licence app, using a personal email address. You must hold a Queensland Driver Licence, Photo Identification Card or Marine Licence to be eligible.
If you already have a Queensland Digital Identity (QDI) — users must check the details as QGov and QDI need to match for a successful merge to occur, noting only one QGov account can be linked to a user’s preferred email address.
Please note that all QDI customers will be required to establish multi-factor authentication.
