$10,000 Community Health Literacy Grants – Applications now open!

Are you part of a community group working to improve health access and understanding? Brisbane South PHN is offering $10,000 grants to fund projects that boost health literacy and empower more people to make informed healthcare choices.

Why health literacy matters

Health literacy refers to how people understand information about health and health care, to then apply that information to their lives, using it to make informed decisions about their health. Low health literacy can lead to avoidable hospital visits and poor health outcomes. According to a survey conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), as many as 3 out of 5 Australians struggle to find and access the right health information when they need it. Your organisation can be part of the solution by creating programs that help people better understand their healthcare options.

What can the grant funds support?

Funding is available for community-led initiatives that:

  • increase awareness of local healthcare services, including the role of GPs and new models of care.

  • build confidence in navigating the local healthcare system.

  • strengthen community trust in healthcare providers.

  • engage with priority populations to design effective, community-led health literacy projects.

Who should apply?

We invite applications from community organisations that:

  • operate in or serve residents within the Brisbane South PHN region.

  • are not-for-profit or partnered with an incorporated body.

  • can manage legal and financial responsibilities for the project.
