Name change: Satellite hospitals become satellite health centres

The Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, the Hon Tim Nicholls has announced a new name change for satellite hospitals. After a consultation process with health experts, a new name for satellite hospitals has been chosen: satellite health centres.

This means, the Redlands Satellite Hospital and Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital are now called the Redlands Satellite Health Centre and Eight Mile Plains Satellite Health Centre, respectively.

These centres will continue to deliver the same trusted care including minor injury and illness care and outpatient services from dedicated nurses, medical officers, and allied health professionals.

If your patients have a health condition or injury that is not life-threatening such as such as simple fractures, simple infections and allergies, sprains, strains and minor burns, the Redlands and Eight Mile Plains Satellite Health Centres are both open from 8 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week.

Anyone in the community needing healthcare can access the satellite health centres, with minor injury and illness clinic offering a drop-in model similar to the emergency department while outpatient services are facilitated via referral pathways.

Satellite health centres in the Brisbane South PHN region

The Brisbane South PHN region currently has 2 satellite health centres:

  • Redlands Satellite Health Centre (Talwalpin Milbul – a name chosen by the Redlands Coast community and local Traditional Owners and Elders meaning ‘Redland Bay alive/ active’ in Jandai language)

  • Eight Mile Plains Satellite Health Centre (Maroo-goodji-ba – a name chosen by the community and local traditional Owners and Elders meaning ‘peace, wellbeing and place of red earth’ in the Yagarabul language).
