Queensland Health Open Hospitals website lets you view real-time hospital emergency department waiting times
Queensland Health has created the Queensland Health Open Hospitals website, to provide Queenslanders with easy online access to real-time data on hospital performance. By publishing real-time data, Queensland Health aims to increase the transparency of our health system.
About the Queensland Health Open Hospitals website
Queenslanders can use the Queensland Health Open Hospitals website to see key information about 25 major public emergency departments and 7 minor injury and illness clinics. This information includes:
the number of permanent treatment spaces
how many patients are waiting
median wait times.
This information is displayed through real-time data updates that are refreshed every 15 to 30 minutes.
While this data is currently provided for Queensland’s major emergency departments, additional facilities are being assessed to see if they can be included for future reporting.
Helping patients access the best care option at any time
To ensure Queenslanders can access the most appropriate healthcare option, the Queensland Health Open Hospitals website also provides relevant information and links, such as:
information on when to go to an emergency department
contact information for 13 HEALTH
a link to the healthdirect online Symptom Checker.
Emergency care versus urgent care options
The FindCareFast website, developed by Brisbane North and Brisbane South Primary Health Networks (PHNs), is an online health service navigation tool helping people across Greater Brisbane to find the most appropriate healthcare option for their needs.
Helping to bridge the service gap between general practices and hospital emergency departments are several new models of urgent care services. These include, Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (UCCs), Minor Injury and Illness Clinics, nurse-led clinics, and some private general practices, that provide walk-in, timely healthcare services to patients in a general practice setting. Urgent care clinics can provide short-term, episodic care for non-life-threatening conditions that require same day assessment or treatment.
People can quickly access a list of urgent care providers in the Greater Brisbane region on FindCareFast.org.au.
Other service navigation projects

Brisbane South PHN is administering community health literacy grants of up to $10,000 (GST exclusive), to assist communities to determine and lead responses that will support the navigation of local health services for community members. Applications close 12pm midday on Friday 28 February 2025.
